The Museum

Experience mining – above and below ground!

Experience mining in its authentic form here with us. Using the hoist system in the Sauberg Main and Vertical Shaft, we transport you up to 100 meters underground into the heart of the Sauberg. At numerous original sites, we offer insights into the lives and daily work of miners across various eras—from the late Middle Ages to modern times. Experienced guides recount the nearly 800-year history of tin and silver mining in Ehrenfriedersdorf and amaze you with our original, fully functional mining machinery.

Mining has left its mark above ground, too: explore our collection of machinery and the reconstructed medieval mine building, complete with a winding winch and adit entrance. Look up at our prominent landmark—the headframe of Shaft 2. Inside the museum, marvel at our diverse mineralogical collection, numerous artworks related to Ehrenfriedersdorf mining, and tin artifacts spanning nearly five centuries.
