Insights into the art of mine surveying

An exhibition featuring artifacts and personal accounts from the collection of the Zinngrube Ehrenfriedersdorf.

Since the dawn of mining, mine surveyors have been the uncrowned kings of the underground world. Through their measurements and calculations, they determine where shafts are sunk and the direction in which tunnels are driven. They then document their findings in mine plans. For centuries, both economic success and the safety of the miners have depended on their work.

Drawing from the collection of the Zinngrube Ehrenfriedersdorf, this exhibition displays surveying instruments used in the field of mine surveying—including historical objects as well as equipment for measuring, calculating, and drafting that remained in use until tin ore mining in Ehrenfriedersdorf came to an end.
