Permanent exhibitions
The permanent exhibitions at the Zinngrube Ehrenfriedersdorf fit together like the pieces of a puzzle to form a multifaceted picture of the former mine: The underground section is accessible only via guided tours, which allow you to explore and experience the site with a focus on various themes. During these tours, you can discover, experience, and gain a deeper understanding of the traces left by the countless industrious hands that carved out and worked the tunnels of the Sauberg.
Above ground, you can visit the Mineralogical Museum, the Bergschmiede, and our outdoor grounds either with or without a guide. Here, too, the many facets of tin mining are revealed: fascinating mineral specimens, intricately carved and painted wooden figures, impressive machinery, and objects of art, work, and daily life that offer insights into the times, lives, and labor of the past. The expansive area of the mine dumps bears the marks of over 800 years of mining—traces that are gradually being reclaimed by nature or, in other areas, deliberately preserved and interpreted. Various memorial stones commemorate tragic fates and the lives of those who perished while performing the arduous work underground. Insights into the lifecycle of tin as a raw material bridge the gap between the past, the present, and the future. The impact of mining on the region—and the profound way it has shaped local culture and community life—is evident at every turn.
